A simple activity to play with your nature babies on a wild walk is ‘I spy’. Try to go through the alphabet and find something in the woodland that begins with each letter, then do I spy and see if they can guess!
“I spy with my little eye, something beginning with A…Acorn!”
“I spy with my little eye, something beginning with B…” And so on…(you can see where this is going!)
This is a great way to engage children with their surroundings and it will open their eyes to how much there is to see. It also keeps them entertained during a long walk and (hopefully) having fun in nature will encourage kids to go outside and play more often! With the little ones, this activity is also a fun way to teach them the alphabet.
So the kids are entertained, learning and getting exercise – it’s a winner!
Who knew I spy was so beneficial?
